Artist's Description

This great white egret is giving a mating display in a nesting site in Osceola County near Kissimmee, Florida.

The great white egret (ardea alba) or great egret can be found in most of the freshwater and saltwater marshes of the tropical, subtropical and temperate regions around the world. You can find it in North, Central, and South America, from lower Canada to Argentina. Usually a resident, it migrates from Canada and the upper United States during the winter.

Ardea alba is a tall all white bird with an "s" shaped neck, a long, dagger-like yellowish-orange bill and black legs. Just slightly smaller than the great blue heron, it measures from 37" to 40.5" in length with a wingspan between 51.6" and 57.1.".

I study the composition, use of light, contrasts of intensities of color, etc. of artist’s works that I catch my eyes to help me hone my skills. I...
