This fish crow was in a tree in the Gibsonton, Florida WalMart parking lot in Hillsborough County on September 3, 2016. The fish crow (corvus ossifragus) is found on the Gulf Coast of the United States from east Texas to Florida and up the Atlantic Coast to Rhode Island. it is also found inland along major waterways like the Mississippi River and freshwater lakes in those areas. It is often found in towns and cities, in parks and landfills It is a short range migrant never going more than 180 miles.
It has the same build as other crows and ravens, though slightly smaller than the American crow. The fish crow has glossy black feathers, and a strong black beak, and black legs and feet. Fish crows often puff out their neck and body feathers when calling making a ruffled collar on their throat...They are 14.2" to 15.7" in length with a wingspan of over 33". When walking their wings appear to fall short of their body lenght.
