Description
An eastern tiger swallowtail butterfly rests on a leaf in Tampa, Florida's Lettuce Lake Park.
The eastern tiger swallowtail (papilio glaucus) can be found in woodlands, fields, roadsides and gardens, and beside rivers and streams in eastern North America from Ontario to Florida, west to Texas and the Great Plains. Look for them from February to November in the south and May to September in the northern portion of their range.
The females can be yellow like the males or almost completely black and have a conspicuous band of blue spots on their hind wings.
